Nothing signifies the arrival of spring quite like the blooming of the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. As a symbol of peace and unity between Japan and the United States, Tokyo Mayor Yukio Ozaki gifted 3,000 cherry blossom trees to the district back in 1912. Today, the tradition is carried on through the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which takes place from March 20 through April 17.
With events that celebrate both Japanese and American cultures, the three-week long festival is the nation's greatest celebration of springtime. From the stylish Pink Tie Party to kite flying on the National Mall, there's something for everyone.
